Cleaning: Whenever possible, use an automatic washer-disinfector or ultrasonic cleaner to clean instruments. Manual cleaning (e.g., manual scrubbing) should only be used when automatic cleaning is not possible, or when stains remain after automatic cleaning, or when the automatic cleaning method is incompatible with the instrument material. When cleaning manually, it must be considered that manual cleaning is much less efficient than automatic cleaning.
All dental pliers should be cleaned of visible dirt immediately after use (no more than 2 hours after use) before subsequent processing, whether they are handled individually, in a tray, or in an instrument box. Contaminated instruments should be pretreated within 2 hours of use.
For pretreatment, a pH-neutral enzyme cleaner can be used. Pre-soak the enzyme cleaner at 32°C for 3-5 minutes. When using other cleaning agents and disinfectants, follow the manufacturer's instructions.
When removing visible dirt manually, only soft-bristle brushes or long-handled soft-bristle brushes can be used, and metal brushes or steel wool cannot be used.
